The E71 is a 3G-only device. While browsing is generally fast enough for light tasks, uploading large files or high-definition video playback may be inconsistent.

remains a powerful, functional, and historically significant piece of software. For anyone looking to experience or utilize a classic Symbian device as a daily tool, it is an essential addition. It transformed the E71 from a messaging phone into a portable internet command center.

: Be aware that JoikuSpot creates an "ad-hoc" network. While most laptops and iOS devices connect easily, some modern Android or Windows 10/11 machines may require a quick tweak to "see" ad-hoc signals. The E71 is a 3G-only device
Despite this, the tech community remembers JoikuSpot v3.20.sis as an incredibly innovative piece of software. It pushed the boundaries of what Symbian hardware could do, proving that the Nokia E71 wasn't just a great phone for its time—it was a true pocket computer.
: The software intelligently manages your signal, automatically reconnecting to 3G if the connection temporarily drops to 2G.
JoikuSpot Premium for Nokia E71 (v3.20.sis): The Ultimate Wi-Fi Hotspot Solution this was a game-changer.
: Rename the default SSID to something shorter (under 30 characters) to ensure it's detectable by modern devices.
The primary argument for JoikuSpot Premium v3.20 is its ability to liberate the Nokia E71 from the constraints of physical cables. In an era where dedicated mobile hotspot hardware was often expensive and carried an additional monthly fee, JoikuSpot leveraged the hardware already in the user’s pocket. The software effectively turned the E71’s 3G/HSDPA radio into a Wi-Fi access point. For the business traveler, this was a game-changer. Instead of hunting for unreliable public Wi-Fi or carrying a clumsy USB dongle, an E71 user could simply launch JoikuSpot and provide instant internet access to a laptop, tablet, or other phones. The Premium version removed the restrictions of the Light version, allowing for unlimited connectivity without forced WAP restrictions, making it a genuinely professional tool.

The combination of the Nokia E71's durable hardware and JoikuSpot Premium's software efficiency offers several advantages:
Detail when you need it. Unlike other mainstream GPU codecs, NotchLC uses variable block size and variable control point bit levels to provide extra detail while allowing greater compression in areas of flatter colours.
NotchLC breaks colour data down into luma and chroma (YUV). 12bits of depth are assigned to luma data, as in many scenarios this is where bit depth is most perceivable. 8bits are assigned to each of the U & V channels.
Rather than specify target bitrates and end up with undetermined quality outcomes, NotchLC takes the reverse approach: during encoding you set a quality level, and the encoder uses the most compression it can while preserving it.
Utilising the modern SSIM measurement method, NotchLC delivers the high-quality results that are needed to be qualified as an intermediary codec. Don’t take our word for it though — read what dandelion + burdock writes in their big, independent 10bit codec test.

Talk to any content creator about codecs and you’ll find encoding times, right at the top of the list of concerns. NotchLC utilises the full power of the GPU to massively accelerate the encoding process.
NotchLC utilises the full power of the GPU to massively accelerate the encoding process. On a consumer PC, encoding can be up to 5.7x faster than realtime at 1080p24. As an example, we encoded the Open Source movie “Big Buck Bunny” (duration 09:57) in just 1 min and 44 secs.
In a CPU codec, the CPU decodes the image and sends the huge raw frames up to the GPU. The secret sauce of a GPU codec is that compressed frames are uploaded and the GPU does the decode. The compressed frames are much smaller in size allowing vastly more video to be passed through the PCI-e bus.
Typically you will see compression ratios of around 5:1 on motion graphics content when compared to raw video. You’ll be able to dial in your final file size by using the encoder’s Quality Level (see the manual).
