Vesna Parun rođena je 10. travnja 1922. godine na otoku Zlarinu kod Šibenika. Otac joj je bio niži općinski činovnik, pa je obitelj zbog njegova posla često mijenjala boravište. Djetinjstvo i mladost provela je na Zlarinu, Šolti i u Splitu.
Nezaobilazno mjesto u hrvatskoj antologiji zauzima pjesma . To je jedan od najljepših i najpotresnijih tekstova o ljubavnom odricanju.
